While in the United States, Mexican commercial truck drivers are subject to the same hours of service requirements as U.S. commercial drivers. All are subject to drug and alcohol testing requirements, including post-accident testing. Mexican carriers must comply with U.S. laws and safety regulations when operating in this country. Motor carriers based in Mexico and operating in Texas are required to either have a Texas Interstate Trucker’s License or obtain a temporary trip permit. Trucking companies that make more than five trips a year into Texas must apply for an interstate truck license.
